Special Youth Events

We have a TON of stuff going on beyond our normal, weekly programs. They’re  arranged in chronological order below beginning in October. If you have any questions, please call (342-4498) or email Jerry.
Confirmation Dinner
Gather with the Confirmation class and their families on a Saturday, October 8, 6 PM to share in a meal, to read our creeds and personal scriptures, and to celebrate our year together in Confirmation! The following Sunday these Youth will be confirmed during the 9:30 service.
Pumpkin Festival
Come help run the jumping castles to raise funds for our summer mission trip! The Youth “run” two jumping castles as a part of the Pumpkin Festival. The event runs from 9 am to 4 pm   Saturday, September 24 at Main Street Square.
All Youth Game Night
Join us at the church from 6 to 10 PM on the first Wednesday of each month to play games and have fun together. We will have a blast and join together in wild and crazy games. Open to Youth in grades 5-12.
Culver’s Fundraiser
Join our Youth at Culver’s on the West side on (date TBD) as a fundraiser for our summer 2017 mission trips. The Youth will be serving meals and busing tables from 5 to 8 PM! Come on out to support our Youth!!
Lock-Ins  (Dates TBD)
Join us from 7PM Friday until 7AM Saturday for a night of fun, fellowship, and other adventures. Cost is usually $10 and we have lots of fun!! We have separate lock-ins for the high school and middle school youth. Games, movie, songs, food, fellowship….
Confirmation Retreat
29Join Youth from all over the state from the evening of November 4 through the morning of November 5 to learn about the Wesleyan Quadrilateral and the sacraments of baptism and communion. We will also make a stole and begin to work on our personal creeds. PLUS we will play games, worship, and even have some free time – all at beautiful Storm Mountain Center!!
DakYouth 2016
30Join us on a trip to attend this great conference event, November 11-13. This is a three-day weekend event that will be held in Aberdeen. It is a long way but we will be taking a bus with several other West River Youth groups. The cost of this event is about $60 plus you will need to buy 4 meals on the road and bring any money you want for t-shirts, CDs, and such.
Movie Night
December 9th at Jerry’s House. Movie and start time TBD.
Youth Christmas Party
Come December 14th at 5:30 to join in a meal and then stick around for some fun!! We will sing songs, play games, fellowship, and exchange some ‘white elephant’ gifts. Come and have a blast!!
Traveling Bake Sale
Mission trip Youth – bake a few dozen cookies, bars, and other treats and meet barsdown at the church at 10 AM on (date TBD) We will package our goods and then walk around downtown offering our wares in a traveling bake sale.
Roll Baking and Sales
We will bake and package rolls  Friday and Saturday January 13-14 (and again on April 7-8) in order to sell them on Sunday. Youth who participate will share in the profits to help them pay for their summer 2017 mission trips.
Winter Connection
CCYM-Logo-231x200Winter Connection will be January 29 -30 and will be held at Canyon Lake United Methodist Church. The cost of the event is $25 for Youth and for adult chaperones. There are games, worship, ice skating and service projects. Winter Connection is open to Youth in grades 6-12 and is sponsored by CCYM – Conference Council for Youth Ministry. REGISTRATION INFO
Super Bowl Subs
We take orders, make subs, and sell them to members of the church as a fundraiser for our mission trips! It is a great way for church members to support our Youth and a great way for our Youth to raise funds to help pay for their trip!! We will make subs on February 3-4 to sell on February 5! Sandwich orders will be taken January 22 & 29 between church services.
Denver Confirmation Trip
We travel to Denver, CO, and visit a Jewish synagogue, a Muslim mosque, a Greek Orthodox Church, and large Methodist church to learn about other religions. We also go to the Denver Museum and iMax theater and share in a meal at a great local diner called “Gunther Toody’s”. It is a great trip for our Youth in confirmation!! The photo above is from inside the Greek church – it is beautiful!! We depart after school on Friday, February (TBD) and return Sunday.
Shrove/Fat Tuesday Pancake Feed – Fundraiser
Invite your friends and family to join us at (time TBD) on February 28 for a pancake feed as a fundraiser for those going on summer mission trips. Kids going on trips will help flip pancakes, serve food, bus tables, wash dishes, etc.
Pizza Ranch Fundraisers
We spend an evening at Pizza Ranch busing tables and getting people pop refills. Pizza Ranch donates 15% of the register and we keep all tips. We are working at the NEW Pizza Ranch by the new Wal-Mart on (TBD) and at the OLD Pizza Ranch (by the Sam’s Club) on (TBD) from 5 to 8 PM.
Graduate’s Dinner
On May 20th we will gather to celebrate our SENIORS!! We will share in a meal, brag on them, let them brag a bit, and honor them as well with our love and our gifts!! This event will begin at 6 PM (time to be confirmed). We will recognize our graduates in church the next day at the 9:30 service.
Blackfoot United Methodist Parish – HS Mission Trip
We will be going to the Blackfoot Indian Reservation, with our base in Babb, Montana the week of July 9-15. We will work on the church and in the community. We are partnering with this community for three years to establish relationship and see the work progress over time.
Adults with different backgrounds are invited to come along. We will cap off the trip with a visit to Glacier National Park and a stay in a local town before we return to Rapid City. We will learn, grow, and serve God!
Summer “Play Day” Events
Once a month in the summer the Youth have gotten together to have a play day. This day is intended to be lots of fun and also be an opportunity to keep in touch during the summer months. While the exact activities and if they will occur are yet to be determined, check back for possible times and activities soon!
Summer Movie Nights
Once a month in the summer the Youth have gotten together to watch a movie and enjoy s’mores and conversation around the fire pit. This has been lots of fun and was a great way to keep in touch during the summer months. Parent-Youth BBQ
Traditionally we kick off the new school year with a late August Sunday gathering to play games, share a meal, and learn about opportunities to serve during the upcoming year!! The church usually provides the burgers and hot dogs and the beverages. 2017 date TBD.
