Jesus Christ is our Foundation

For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus
Christ. 1 Corinthians 3:11

Samuel Stone, curate at Windsor in the shadow of Windsor Castle, wrote twelve hymns based on twelve articles of the Apostles’ Creed in 1866. The hymn, “The Church’s One Foundation” was based on the ninth article of the Apostles’ Creed. Samuel Wesley, the grandson of Charles Wesley wrote the music for this hymn one year later. Not all verses
are sung today. Here is one of the verses that helps us to understand Samuel’s passion:
Through and scornful wonder men see her sore
oppressed, By schisms rent asunder, by heresies
distressed; yet saints their watch are keeping, their
cry goes, “How Long?” And soon the night of
weeping will be the morn of song!

My prayer for the week: Dear Lord, thank you for being our rock. You are our foundation. You provide us the power to be a fruitful servant. Help us to lead others into Your service. We are blessed to see Your eternal light as a beacon in our daily lives. Praise God. Amen
