Holy Fortitude

Watch, stand fast in the faith, be brave, be strong. 1 Corinthians 16:13

Recommended reading: 1 Corinthians 16

Isaac Watts wrote the hymn “Am I a Soldier of the Cross” in 1724 based on his sermon Holy Fortitude based on the above verse. In 1870, D. L. Moody, the world-famed evangelist, was preaching at a convention in Indianapolis.  At the last minute, a government tax collector, Ira Sankey, was asked to lead the singing.  Moody asked Sankey to help him in his work. Sankey’s beautiful voice and Isaac Watt’s song arrested workers attending the meetings. Crowds were large for their evangelist meetings. Sankey sang first and then Moody preached the gospel. They worked together for three decades as soldiers of Christ.

My prayer for the week:  Dear Jesus, We honor the life you had, for it is the life God gave you to embrace.  Remember the lesson of the faithful: even he who suffers the most eventually rises. Each of our footsteps is guarded by the Lord. Life isso more than what we see.  It is faith in action. InYour Holy name we pray. Amen
